GLOBAL TEMP ANOMALY12-month trailing average of global surface temperature anomaly above 1850–1900 pre-industrial mean. Primary: Copernicus C3S ERA5 reanalysis. Cross-referenced with NOAA GISSTEMP and Berkeley Earth. Arc = position in 0–2°C Paris risk corridor. Updated monthly.
SEA LEVEL RISEContinuous satellite altimetry: TOPEX/Poseidon (1993) → Jason-1/2/3 → Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich (2020–present). Monthly global mean averages from NASA JPL Physical Oceanography DAAC. Arc = position in 0–200mm scale. Rate acceleration from linear trend analysis of 5-year segments.
ARCTIC SEA ICE EXTENTNSIDC Sea Ice Index via satellite passive microwave (SMMR, SSM/I, SSMIS). Extent = total ocean area with at least 15% ice concentration. Updated daily. Compared against 1981–2010 median for the same calendar day to remove seasonal signal. Arc = percentile within seasonal historical range.
CO₂ CONCENTRATIONContinuous measurement at NOAA Mauna Loa Observatory since 1958 (the Keeling Curve). Weekly averages from NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory. Cross-referenced with Scripps Institution CO₂ program. Arc = position between 280ppm (pre-industrial) and 500ppm (extreme risk ceiling).
EXOPLANET DISCOVERYRaw count from NASA Exoplanet Archive. Confirmed status requires: peer-reviewed publication, independent verification via secondary detection method, and archive acceptance. Habitable zone defined by orbital distance allowing liquid surface water. Arc = pace toward 10,000 milestone by 2030.
TECHNOSIGNATURE WATCHConfirmed detections from peer-reviewed publications — none exist. The prior 'active candidates' count (FAST 2022 reports) was retired in August 2026: no source publishes an ongoing candidate register, so the dashboard no longer displays one. Survey progress tracked from Breakthrough Listen and SETI Institute publications.
SOLAR ACTIVITY24-hour peak geomagnetic storm rating from NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC). G-scale from Kp-index: G1=Kp≥5, G2=Kp≥6, G3=Kp≥7, G4=Kp≥8, G5=Kp=9. Sunspot number from WDC-SILSO, Royal Observatory of Belgium — international standard since 1849.
NEAR-EARTH OBJECT WATCHNASA CNEOS close approach database. Close approach = within 0.05 AU (~7.5M km). Impact probability from JPL Sentry automated orbital mechanics. Potentially hazardous: >140m + intersects within 0.05 AU. Updated daily from automated telescope observations worldwide.
WEALTH INEQUALITYGlobal Gini from World Inequality Database (WID.world) — maintained by Piketty, Chancel, Saez, and Zucman. Gini: 0 = perfect equality, 1 = perfect inequality. Arc normalized against 0–1.0 scale, with 0.8 as practical ceiling. Updated annually with World Inequality Report.
SOCIAL MOBILITY INDEXWEF Global Social Mobility Index (2020, unrevised): 10 equal-weight pillars — health, education access, education quality, lifelong learning, technology access, work opportunities, fair wages, working conditions, social protection, institutions. Supplemented by Opportunity Insights intergenerational income mobility data and the World Bank's 2025 income-mobility database. No update since 2020 — carried as stale-but-labeled.
CONFLICT DEATHSACLED Conflict Index — fatalities coded from reported political-violence events across all conflicts worldwide; conservative by design, and deliberately undercounts military deaths ACLED deems unverifiable (notably Ukraine). Cross-referenced with UCDP. Correction Aug 2026 (issue 6.1): the prior 28,400 YTD figure was retired after failing a source check; the tile now carries ACLED's published 12-month Conflict Index figure. Battle-death-only YTD reporting resumes if/when ACLED publishes one.
PEACEKEEPING REACHUN peacekeeping fact sheets (peacekeeping.un.org). Personnel = troops + police + military observers + staff officers + civilians. Mission count = active mandated operations. Prior 87K/12 figure corrected Aug 2026 to the official series. Updated from UN reporting.
SPECIES THREAT INDEXIUCN Red List — the world's most comprehensive biodiversity database. Assessed across nine categories from Least Concern to Extinct. Threatened = Vulnerable + Endangered + Critically Endangered. Updated quarterly. Arc = threatened % of assessed, normalized against 50% ceiling.
CONSERVATION COVERAGEProtected Planet database by UNEP-WCMC and IUCN. Counts nationally designated protected areas and OECMs (Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures).
